Diversions, whether physical or spiritual, have caused many people untold misery and have led them to make tough decisions that have cost them a lot.

Nehemiah 6:2-3 Sanballat and Geshem sent me this message: “Come, let us meet together in one of the villages on the plain of Ono.” But they were planning to harm me; so, I replied by sending this message to them: “I am engaged in a great work, so I can’t come. Why should I stop working to come and meet with you?”

We see in this Bible passage that Nehemiah was asked to come down from his work and meet with the enemies.  If he would have done that, then the people might have mistaken it for the fact that Nehemiah was now in the pockets of the enemies, which would have caused discord among the people, and may have caused the work of the Lord to cease. 

Always keep in mind, if the Lord gives us a ministry and other people are involved, a diversion may cause them to give up their part in the ministry.  There is a ripple effect.  What we do affects others! At the minimum, Nehemiah would have basically shirked his duty to meet with these men just to talk.  There are many who talk more instead of doing more.  Always be careful when someone comes to you when you are involved in a ministry, and asks you to leave it for a while.  They undoubtedly have evil intentions.

Let us not blame each other or the economy, but instead, let us pray because the devil came only to kill and destroy, and he will use every available evil weapon at his disposal, including the spirit of diversion. So the only way we can overcome him is through prayer, and after all, the bible says in Isaiah 54:17, “No weapon that is formed against you will prosper; and every tongue that accuses you in judgment you will condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their vindication is from Me,” declares the LORD.
