Debts Are Like A Curse For Genuine Christian People

Listen to this article

According to the Book of Deuteronomy 15:1 it says that” at the end of every seven years, you must cancel debts.” this showed us that God wanted debts out of the lives of his people and that is why God encouraged debt cancellation as a way of releasing his people from this financial bondage. g

What Is A Debt?

A debt means something owed to another person, such as goods, property, or money. What are some Biblical references to debt and what do they mean:

Deuteronomy 15:1Debt is to be released.

1 Samuel 22:2 – Those who were in debt came to David.

2 Kings 4:7 – Pay your debts.

Nehemiah 10:31 – Forgo the exaction of every debt.

Proverbs 22:26 – Do not become guarantors for debts.

Matthew 6:12 – Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

Matthew 18:27, 30, 32, 34 – Forgive because your debts have been forgiven.

Luke 7:42-43 – He who is forgiven much (debt) loves much; he who is forgiven little (debt) loves little.

Romans 4:4 – Wages, like a debt owed, must be paid.

Colossians 2:14 –Jesus canceled the record of debt we owed by nailing it to the cross.

What The Bible Does NOT Say About Debt.

There are certain misunderstandings about scriptural teaching on debt. Most believers often assume that the Bible takes certain positions when it comes to debts but in reality, it doesn’t. So let’s take a look at what the Bible doesn’t say.

The Bible doesn’t say that:

1. It’s a sin to borrow or have a debt: Nowhere in the bible does it say that you are violating one of God’s commandments when you borrow, especially when you borrow for a just cause like medical emergencies, job layoffs, or bankruptcy. We see that mostly Romans 13:8 is often misquoted to try and  “prove” that borrowing is a sin, but this verse is mainly about relationships, not about money issues.).

The wisdom of the Bible teaches us that it is usually not a good idea to go into debt. Debt essentially makes us a slave to the one who provides the loan. Proverbs 22:7, ”The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is a slave to the lender.

2. It’s a sin to loan money: But the bible cautions us not to rely on loans from people and organizations because this puts us at a disadvantage point. God wants us to lend to others. Obviously, this is difficult if you don’t have anything to lend. (Deuteronomy 15:6, 28:12, Matthew 5:42)

3. Debt is an exercise in faith: Remember that God doesn’t need a man or a bank to meet your need. All God needs is your faith and that is sometimes denied by your lack of faith in God’s providence. God provided for His people in many ways but loans were not his preferred method. That is something to think about next time you get tempted to reach for the credit card.

4. Our God will bail us out of our debts: God has never promised to cancel the consequences of our unwise decisions. So be careful when you take a debt.

Is Debt a curse or a blessing for Christian People?

Debt3

If I were to ask you who or what is your worst enemy. What would you say is? Debt is your worst enemy it’s like a weapon let’s say a sword. You can use it to destroy your enemies, protect your family and yourself. Remember there are two types of debts good debt (that can make you richer) and bad debt(that can make you poorer).

The spirit of debts is a wicked spirit which can destroy families, lives, marriages, cause people to murder, even do unthinkable things, etc.

People have accepted debt as a way of life. No wonder so many people are in debt today. I know most of us are believing to be out of debt someday. We should talk about it openly and not hid anything or pretend. Brethren this is the elephant in the room and it refuses to be ignored otherwise it will cause more harm than good.

We got to change so that we can position ourselves to receive the blessings God has in store for us. No man can operate the way God intended when you are in debt. Remember your way of thinking got you where you are now and without changing your thinking pattern you will never get out of those debts.

Romans 12:2 Don’t let non-Christians talk you out of God’s way of thinking. I know we have grown hearing that debts are ok because we were raised in that spirit of debts.

Biblical Debts Release Principles.

Debt2

We are only going to be dealing with biblical debts release principles and not man’s strategies.

Remember the bible says we must trust in God’s prophets and we will prosper 2 Chronicles 20:20. You got to be careful when God puts an increase in your life so that you don’t mishandle it and then start complaining.

According to James 1:5, we should ask God for wisdom to come out of Debts. We are lacking the wisdom to keep money and not money itself. We should have an altered mind ready for action to move away from debts.

Just because you got the money, it doesn’t mean you had wisdom no wonder you lost that money and then end up at the other side of money called debts.

Most people attend church and believe in God for an increase, promotions and when they get this and are rich they change their walking style(lifestyle) by being involved in a spending spree.

So, with this raise you bought a new car, assets, etc.so before you know it you have eaten everything which came in inform of the raise and now you are back to square one. We do it so quickly instead of doing it gradually. By doing this you are back in bondage again since you need more debt to help you out.

So please try to maintain your level of living for a while, no matter what if you have things and they are working keep using them until it’s necessary to change them. Don’t buy a car or asset to prove a point because it will cost you.

Instead, when you get an increase use it to get out of that debt. It doesn’t mean God isn’t doing anything but its how we use that increase. Everyone is supposed to have a form of saving account that is what the bible calls storehouse (Psalm 144:13).

Into this storehouse God will command blessing (Deuteronomy 28:8) through his prophets (2 Kings 4:2-5). So, you can expect some interesting things to start happening (unexpected gifts, inheritances, promotions etc)

Stop coming up with excuses of why you can’t come out of debt because they will rob you of the supernatural. When you start to pass your mistakes as to why you are where you are now in your life you are trying to make others your source and only God is your source.

Brethren remember when people try to make you their source then God steps back since those people are going to become your source. So if you are making anybody your source simply because the person is rich, stop it, and turn to God only. (Jeremiah 17:5)

Debtsnew3

To get out of debt you must take control of your finances, and don’t let anyone do it for you. Remember no one can make you rich with a big cut called interest.

Let’s say good debt that it’s a business loan that you borrow from the bank to expand your business, to buy that new piece of equipment, maybe to hire more employees, or to grow your company, to grow your business. Or it could even be a student loan that you borrow from the government. So as to improve your skill sets so you can deliver more value to the marketplace.

It’s not so much about the debt but the character of the person that’s borrowing the money. A wise businessman invests his money (good debt) but a bad debt is when he borrows to buy a car he can’t pay off Payday loans. Credit card, credit card debt, personal debt for personal consumption. It doesn’t really generate money. It doesn’t make you richer. It makes you poor.
