Introduction:
There are many questions we ask ourselves about angels like: Are the angels of God real? Do angels of God exist? Do the angels of God eat? Do the angels of God have desires like ours? Do the angels of God die, or do they live forever? Where do the angels of God live? Can I see them? What do the angels of God look like? Why do they appear and disappear again? Can I work with the angels of God? Where do the angels of God get their bodies from? Do babies become angels of God when they die?
These and many more are the questions that we will address as we dive into this topic and other relevant topics about angels of God.
What Angels Of God Are Not.
There are so many misconceptions about who the angels of God are, but most of these are just myths and not facts. For instance, many of us think that angels are:
- The angels of God can not be everywhere at the same time, like God. They can only be in one place at a time.
2. angels of God are not glorified human beings. They are a separate type of creatures and are different from human beings. They do not marry or reproduce like humans
3. angels of God do not have physical bodies. They are spiritual beings and who live in the spiritual heavenly realm.
4. angels of God are not all-knowing, by that I mean they are limited in their knowledge of things. They possess greater
5. angels of God in the Bible never appear as cute, chubby infants! They are always full-grown adults. When people in the Bible saw an angel, their typical response was to fall on their faces in fear and awe, not to reach out and tickle an adorable baby.
Angels are not cutty little babies covered with some feathers who are flying around with some little jokes and messages to give. Believe me, these so-called cutty angels won’t help you when it comes to fighting witches or even help you with any serious matters of the heart.
Who Is An Angel?
If you are in the kingdom, then God assigns you a spiritual helper called an angel or what is commonly called a guardian angel to help you do your daily activities and even to act as a bodyguard when the need arises (Psalms 34:7). Every child born into the world has a guardian angel. (Matthew 18:10), and you don’t lose your guardian angel because you have grown up.
What Does An Angel Look Like In The Real Sense?
They can appear to us in any of these three forms:
1. Humanly Form:
Here they appear to us as mere mortals like us and you can’t differentiate them from us for instance in the case of:
Only 2 angels in the form of men were sent to destroy these two nations Sodom and Gomorra ( Genesis 19:1–13)
One Angel visited Mary the mother of Jesus and gave a message that she will give birth to Jesus without a man knowing her (Luke 1:27-38).
One angel visited Manoah the father of Samson and promised him that his barren wife would have a child (Judges 13:2-13).
2. Humanly form with more spiritual attributes:
Here you will notice that they might appear to us as human beings who are so strong or shining. Angels won’t appear in the way you want them to appear as we can see in Matthew 14:26-28. They may appear like ghosts. Remember that angels will have to use their spiritual bodies and then combine them with our physical human bodies so as to connect with you otherwise if they appear only in their spiritual bodies, they will scare you and might not communicate the message they have.
3. Spiritual Form:
Here the angel will appear in their pure spiritual form as we can see in the book of Daniel 10:4-13, Daniel tried to explain to us what the angel looked like in his spiritual form and he also told us that others didn’t see the angel, but they sensed this angel in his spiritual form but were very scared.
Another instance where an angel appeared in his spiritual form was in the book of Matthew 28:2-7. Angels might appear like lightning, and their clothing as white as snow (Matthew 28:3). So, we need to know how they look and even how they can appear to us and in what forms so that we don’t miss them when they do appear to us. To the enemies they appear fearful and frightening but to those they are sent to deliver a message to, they appear very friendly and kind too.
In Matthew 28:2-7, The angel didn’t speak to them, but his presence caused all this to happen. This was just one angel who was sent to Jesus. When he stepped on the ground around the grave and beyond, it shook causing a massive earthquake.
Remember these Roman soldiers had been used to guarding against a human army and not against an angel after all they had never seen one.
Angels might appear like lightning, and their clothing as white as snow (Matthew 28:3). So, we need to know how they look and even how they can appear to us and in what forms so that we don’t miss them when they do appear to us.
According to Exodus 23:20-21, The reason for their appearance is that they have God’s presence in themselves and then their personality. For instance, when we say the name of the angel Michael, here’s what we mean, Micha is the actual name of the angel, and el at the last part of the name means God. That is why when they appear to us, we tend to want to worship the el (God’s) presence in them. It’s like God has arrived so be careful.
For instance, John in the Book of Revelation almost worshipped an angel, but the angel reminded him that he is a servant (Revelation 22:8-9). After all, I understand that John knew that angels are our servants (Hebrews 1:14), but he didn’t know what they looked like or had not seen one of these angels.
How Big Is One Angel?
According to 1 Chronicles 21: 16,17,30 we see that the angel of the lord looked like he is standing between heaven and earth. This angel was so big that it scared King David who had killed so many giants, lions, and bears.
So now let us try to understand how tall one angel is. To do this we will first ask Enoch in the bible (Genesis 5:18-21 and Hebrews 11:5). This same Enoch prophesied as we read in the book of Jude 1:14 and these prophecies are written in a book called the Book of Enoch (which was discovered with the rest of the Bible in the dead sea scrolls in 1948).
Since we know that Enoch existed and wrote prophecies let us read one of his writings in the Book of Enoch chapter 7: 10-12, which says “Then they took wives, each choosing for himself; whom they began to approach, and with whom they cohabited; teaching them sorcery, incantations, and the dividing of roots and trees. And the women conceiving brought forth giants, whose stature was each three hundred cubits. These devoured all [which] the labor of men [produced]; until it became impossible to feed them.” This line of interpretation finds additional support in the text of Genesis 6:4
Here we know that 1 cubit is equivalent to 0.46 Meters. So, 300 Cubits is equivalent to approx. 140 Meters. So, you can see that an angel is so big if he was to appear in his Kingdom appearance. He has a height of approximately 140 meters.
Just imagine when you compare this height to that of Adam it is a shocking thing There is no mention of their height in the Bible. But according to speculations, Adam was around 30 meters.
So now you can see what effect one angel can have here on Earth. For instance, in the book of Matthew 28:2, we see that there was a violent earthquake, as one angel came down from heaven and was moving towards the grave of Jesus.
So now you know that you were praying in the wrong manner when you were calling on a legion of angels to come and do the work you yourself can do, or the work which requires the attention of only one angel.
It is just like you calling a police station and asking for the station commander to sent several policemen to escort you home simply because you are too drunk to drive through the busy city center and on arrival to your home also to help you fix something to eat before you go to bed. Yes, they might come because they sense you are too drunk, but they might end up arresting you and getting you fined also for drunken driving and abuse of law enforcement, you must understand what a policeman does first before you call him. This is the same case when it comes to calling the angels during prayers.
The reason you don’t know all these things about angels is because your eyes have not been opened. So, it requires your eyes to be opened (2 Kings 6:16-17). The reason we need our eyes opened is because we end up missing the other things of the kingdom like we miss seeing these helpful angels (Matthew 13:14-15).
When you don’t know what to expect when an angel appears or how he looks then you might be frightened by the appearance of the angel (Matthew 28:4). But when you are used to seeing angels or you know what to expect then you will benefit greatly from their visits (Matthew 28:5).
Brethren always remember who you are in the Kingdom and who the angels are in the Kingdom and what is their role in the Kingdom. Don’t be confused or ignorant like a five-year-old calling the police on their toy phone or even talking to God in their toy phone. Some of our prayers sound like that to God.
