A weapon you do not understand will do you no good and might even harm you or harm others. So, you need to first understand the power of your weapon before you use it.
I want to talk to you today about the power in the blood of Jesus.
We see that in the Book of Hebrews 9:22, “IIn fact, according to the law of Moses, nearly everything was purified with blood. For without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sins.”
This was done on the day of atonement (Yom Kippur). This is the holiest day on the start of the Jewish calendar each year, both in biblical times and today.
On this day, Jews from every background, from the most Orthodox to the least observant, will go to a synagogue to ask God to forgive them of their sins. In Israel, everything will completely shut down. Cars will not be allowed to be driven on the roads; the television stations will stop broadcasting and shops will close. Only emergency vehicles will be allowed on the streets. This is the only day of the year when Israel completely stops.
Whereby, according to Hebrews 9:7, “only the high priest ever entered the Most Holy Place, and only once a year. And he always offered blood for his own sins and for the sins the people had committed in ignorance.”
If the sacrifice was acceptable, the sins of the people would not be taken away permanently, but they would be covered for another year. The blood of animals only offered them temporary forgiveness, but God told Abraham that a new covenant to permanently take care of their sin problem was coming, which didn’t involve the blood of bulls and goats but a special kind of sacrifice.
All we know is that according to Leviticus 22:20, do not present an animal with defects, because the LORD will not accept it on your behalf.
This was an ongoing process, and the priest had to make sure everything was perfect, that the animal didn’t have spots or blemishes, that it was the right age, and that it met all the requirements. If it failed to meet the requirements, the sacrifice wouldn’t be acceptable, and the people wouldn’t have God’s blessing, and even the priest could end up dying. The priest had to wear a robe with bells to keep the people outside aware of his status, whether he died or was alive (Exodus 28:35).
John the Baptist, who was out ministering when he saw Jesus coming, said, Look, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world (John 1:29). John knew that Jesus was the sacrifice that God told Abraham about. Jesus was God’s Lamb when he died on the cross and shed his blood; it says in Hebrews that he went once and for all into the holy of holies, not with the blood of bulls and goats but with the blood of Jesus to secure a complete redemption for us all.
We see that according to 1 Peter 2:24, “Christ himself carried our sins in his body to the cross, so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his stripes (wounds), you are healed.”
So, when Jesus hung on the cross suspended between heaven and earth, he took all of our sins, all of our failures and weaknesses, and all of the times we’ve blown it, and he forgave us, and in exchange, he gave us a new status to be called children of God if we received this sacrificed lamb called Jesus (John 1:12).
So, if you go around guilty, condemned, and trying to pay God back for your mistakes, know the price has already been paid by Jesus, so just receive his mercy and love (John 3:16). According to 2 Corinthians 5:19, if you have received Christ, then God is not counting your sins against you. So also forgive yourself and move on because God has moved on from that sin.
The Power in the Blood of Jesus
When you feel like Jesus didn’t do enough on the cross and you need something more, ask yourself this question. Do you think your mistake was too much for the blood that Christ shed? Is it greater than the blood of Jesus?
Don’t be a victim who thinks their works of offering the blood of bulls and goats today can do it better. Just know that you’ve been redeemed by the sinless, spotless, all-powerful son of the living God. That’s not ordinary blood; that’s the blood of Jesus. That’s the blood that defeated the devil, according to Revelation 12:11. It’s the same blood of Jesus that took the keys to death and hell—blood that causes the demons to tremble.
The blood of Jesus, opened blind eyes, cured the lepers, walked on water, and calmed the seas. It’s the blood that restored the woman caught in adultery. It is the blood of Jesus that forgave the people who crucified him. What I am trying to say is that no mistake you’ve made is too much for the blood of Jesus.
If God has let your sin go, why don’t you also let it go? We all make mistakes and have times that our lives are clouded by poor choices, clouded by sin. But when you ask God to forgive you, He says, He will not remember our sins anymore (Hebrews 8:12). So, STOP remembering what God has forgotten.
For hundreds of years, the Israelites were in slavery under the Egyptians. On the day of the final plague, God gave the Israelites special instructions on how to remain protected. Each man was to take a lamb for their family. It had to be a one-year-old male without spots or blemishes. They were to sacrifice that lamb at dusk and take some of the blood and put it on the top of their door and some on the sides of the door frame.
God said, When I see the blood over your doorpost, I will know that you belong to me, and I will pass over your house. No harm will come near you when I destroy your enemies. You can imagine how careful they must have been to follow these instructions.
At midnight, when the death angel came through the land wherever he saw the blood, he passed over and they were protected. Brethren have you put this blood over your house? Have you taken the lamb? The sacrifice has already been made. We don’t have to do it physically like they did. We’re under the new covenant, but the principle is still the same because we have the blood of Jesus.
When you say as for me in my house, we will serve the Lord (Joshua 24:15).
What you’re doing in effect is, you’re putting the blood over your doorpost. When the enemy comes and sees the blood he passes over. When you’ve accepted the sacrifice of Christ’s salvation that’s a place of protection. No weapon formed against you will prosper (Isaiah 54:17). There is a bloodline that the enemy cannot cross. If the blood of an animal could keep them safe how much more so can the blood of the son of the living God, the blood of Jesus? (Hebrews 12:24).
As we see in the book of Genesis 4:10 that you cannot shut up the blood from speaking even if you kill the body, because the life is in the blood, according to Leviticus 17:11, that is why 2000 years later the blood of Jesus is speaking for us as our attorney.
Jesus was born of a virgin (Luke 1:34) when Holy Spirit came over Mary (Luke 1:35) so he was the son of God, and his blood was perfectly holy, uncorrupted, pure blood.
Its a medical fact that the blood of Jesus and the blood of Mary would not mix in the womb. The blood that flowed through Jesus was God’s blood. Because he himself is God and he himself is the Son of the living God. But you may say God doesn’t have blood, but when Jesus was on this earth, he did. “…he bought with his own blood.” (Acts 20:28)
By faith, we can say I put the blood of Jesus over my house, my children, my finances, my health and even my business. When you’re covered by the blood of Jesus, the enemy doesn’t have a choice. He has to pass over. I’m not saying that negative things will never happen. You’ll never have a difficulty. That’s not reality. I’m saying nothing will happen without God’s permission. Because of the blood of Jesus there’s a hedge around you and your family. Except if you break that hedge, the devil can’t attack you (Ecclesiastes 10:8).
For instance, according to Joshua 2:21, Rahab was a Canaanite prostitute who helped Hebrew spies escape from Jericho by lowering them down through her window on a rope made of scarlet thread. The scarlet thread symbolizes atonement and Jesus Christ’s sacrifice for the redemption of mankind.
According to Joshua 6:25 Joshua spared Rahab the prostitute and her relatives who were with her in the house, because she had hidden the spies Joshua sent to Jericho.
Rahab and her family were the only ones that were spared. These spies probably understood the Passover; they had heard stories about how their relatives had put the blood over the doorpost and how they had been protected. Similar to that, they told Rahab that as long as she stayed under the scarlet cord, she’d be safe. The scarlet cord represents the blood. The same principle today: as long as you keep the blood of Jesus over your life like Rahab, enemies will have to pass you by.
You don’t know how many things came against you but like the Israelites because of the blood they had to pass over. Maybe sickness, Bad habits, addictions or even an accident was headed to you, but when it saw the blood, it kept on going. That accident should have taken your life but when the death angel saw the blood, he said can’t mess with them.
These forces of darkness are not moved by what family you come from, by what church you go to, by how many good deeds you do; what they respond to is the blood of Jesus over your life. Have you put the blood of Jesus over your children, over your family, over your health? According to Galatians 6:17, since you bear the mark of Jesus, nothing should trouble you.
Revelation 12:11. They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the Word of their testimony.
The blood of Jesus is of absolute importance in the life of the believer.
Isaiah 1;18, Sin had left a crimson stain, he washed it white as snow.
Peter points us to the eternal, invaluable treasure that the blood of Jesus is in the life of the believer, knowing that you were ransom from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.
1 Peter 1:18-19, God didn’t spare any cost for our justification, redemption, and propitiation. Perishable metals that are of earthly value quickly grow dim when compared to the cost God paid. We owed a debt we could not pay, and God paid a debt he didn’t owe. We are called to live under this memorial.
1 Corinthians 11:24–26. Do this in rememberance of me. In the same way, after supper, he took the cup, saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this whenever you drink it in memory of me. For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
