The Meaning Of Thanksgiving

Here we will learn what thanksgiving is, and why is thanksgiving so important to God. How do you show thanksgiving to God? The Bible uses the word “thanksgiving” only 25 times (in the NIV), although you will find many other instances with the base word “thank.” Let us look at a few verses below talking about Thanksgiving:

Thanksgiving

“Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise! Give thanks to Him; bless His name! We give thanks to the Lord for His goodness and His love.” (Psalm 100:4)

“Let us come into His presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to Him with songs of praise!” (Psalms 95:2)

The true meaning of Thanksgiving focuses on relationships. Thanksgiving is a relationship between God and man. The Bible is filled with Bible verses about thanksgiving and Scriptures about gratitude that can help cultivate a life that is filled with joy. God set up a system for the Israelites to show their thankfulness through a specific thanksgiving sacrifice called a peace offering (Leviticus 7:11-15).

I know that some of us feel like there is nothing to thank God for during this year, Some of us lost our beloved ones, lost jobs, became sick, and even worse off we didn’t achieve our goals and targets. But still, Thanksgiving is a must.

Remember, brethren, “the end of something is better than its beginning…” Ecclesiastes 7:8. What can I say? other than to thank God because there were many who started with me this year but didn’t see it end, they died. You see, a “live dog is better than a dead lion.” Ecclesiastes 9:4. Yes, you have missed your target or goal, but you still have a chance to correct that during the next year.

When you thank God, he shows his might and sends an army of angels to fight on your behalf, just like God told Moses to stand still and let the angels do the heavy work of parting the Red Sea. When you thank God, victory is guaranteed, healing is secured, and even death is swallowed (John 11:41).

Thanksgiving

Brethren thank God, for that is his will, even if you had so many stumbling blocks on your road to success, still thank God   (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Remember the Lord closed certain roads or blocked them since they were leading to your destruction (Matthew 7:13), so thank the Lord for that also.

Remember the ONLY thing God can’t do for himself is to Thank himself through worship, praise of any form either words or songs. So why can’t we take advantage of this and offer our God more of this in exchange for a little piece of heaven’s glory?

So, brethren before you start to pray sing some songs to praise God for a few minutes as the Holy Spirit leads.
