O God, do not keep silence; do not hold your peace or be still, O God! Psalm 83:1.
Introduction.
God’s silence refers to a season when a person feels that God is not speaking, answering prayers, giving direction, or intervening in a particular situation. It does not mean God is absent; it means His voice, actions, or timing may not be apparent to us.
What God’s Silence Is Not:
- It is not proof that God has abandoned you.
- It is not proof that God does not love you.
- It is not proof that your prayers are being ignored.
- It is not proof that God has stopped working.
Isaiah 45:15, “Truly you are a God who hides himself, O God of Israel, the Savior. Even when God seems silent, He is often working behind the scenes.
Examples of God’s Silence In The Bible.
God’s silence is one of the most difficult experiences for believers. There are seasons when heaven seems closed, prayers seem unanswered, and God appears distant. Yet throughout Scripture, some of God’s greatest servants walked through periods of divine silence. For instance:
- Job suffered tremendous losses and could not understand why God was not answering him according to Job 30:20. But God was working out something great for Job because Job’s end was better than his beginning (Job 42:10-17).
- David often cried out because he felt God was distant according to Psalm 13:1 and in the end David learned to trust God even when he could not hear Him.
- Jesus cried on the cross,” My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” (Matthew 27:46). But the Father had greater plan of redemption in motion.
- Joseph When Joseph was sold into slavery, God seemed silent. When he was falsely accused and thrown into prison, God seemed silent. Yet the Bible repeatedly says: Genesis 39:21 “But the LORD was with Joseph.”
The Silence Between Malachi and Matthew.
One of the greatest periods of silence in Scripture lasted about 400 years. After the prophet Malachi, there was no recorded prophetic voice until John the Baptist appeared. For four centuries, heaven seemed silent. Then suddenly:
- John the Baptist appeared.
- Jesus was born.
- Salvation came to mankind.
What looked like silence was actually preparation for one of the greatest events in history.
Sometimes God Is Silent Because He Has Already Spoken
Many believers seek a new word when they have not obeyed the last word. God may seem silent because He is waiting for obedience. For instance:
- God says forgive.
- We ask for another instruction.
- God says tithe.
- We ask for another sign.
- God says pray.
- We ask for another prophecy.
Often the next revelation comes after obedience. Always remember that the bible reminds us in James 1:22, “Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only.”
Silence Can Be The Best School of Faith
Faith grows strongest when God appears silent. Anyone can trust God when miracles are happening. Real faith says: “Even though I cannot see Him, I will trust Him.” Afterall in Hebrews 11:1, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
Prayers To Overcome God’s Silence:
1..Heavenly Father, I repent of every known and unknown sin that may have affected my fellowship with You. Restore the joy of Your salvation and renew a right spirit within me, in Jesus name.
2. Heavenly Father, I renounce every fear, doubt, and unbelief that hinders my faith. I choose to trust You even when I do not understand what You are doing especially during seasons when answers seem delayed, in Jesus name.
3. Heavenly Father, I come before You seeking Your face. Open my spiritual ears and make me sensitive to Your leading according to Your perfect will, in Jesus name.
4. Heavenly Father, guide me by Your Spirit and show me the path I should take concerning my family, ministry, finances, career, and destiny. Let every veil covering Your direction be removed, in Jesus name
5. Holy Spirit, rekindle the fire of prayer, worship, and devotion within me. Let every spiritual dryness be consumed by Your fire, in Jesus name.
6. Heavenly Father, help me trust Your timing. Let me not run ahead of You or lag behind Your purpose, in Jesus name.
7.Heavenly Father, I reject every spirit of confusion, distraction, and spiritual deafness. Let my ears be opened to hear Your instructions. Let the voice of the Holy Spirit become clear in my life, in Jesus name
8. Heavenly Father, send encouragement through Your Word, Your Spirit, and Your servants especially during Your seasons of silence, in Jesus name.
9. Heavenly Father, let the heavens over my life be open. Let Your favor, wisdom, revelation, and guidance flow freely into my life, in Jesus name.
10. Let very voice of confusion speaking against God’s promises in my life, be silenced in Jesus’ name.
11. Heavenly Father, let every unanswered cry before Your throne receive divine attention according to Your lovingkindness, in Jesus name.
12. Heavenly Father, let every disappointment that has weakened my confidence in prayer, be healed by Your power. Restore my expectation and hope in You, in Jesus name.
13. Heavenly Father, visit me as You visited Abraham, Jacob, Moses, Hannah, and Samuel. Let my season of waiting become a season of encounter, in Jesus name.
14. Holy Spirit, teach me to pray effectively and consistently. Let my prayer altar burn continually, in Jesus name.
15. Heavenly Father, grant me the faith of the persistent widow who refused to give up until she received an answer, in Jesus name.
