Spirit of Korah: 15 Powerful Prayers Against It Now

Listen to this article

How terrible for them! They have followed the way that Cain took. For the sake of money they have given themselves over to the error that Balaam committed. They have rebelled as Korah rebelled, and like him they are destroyed. (Jude 1:11). In this bible verse we see that Jude uses Korah as an example of people who reject God’s authority and pursue their own ambitions.

According to Numbers 16:3, the bible says that “You have gone too far! The whole community is holy, every one of them, and the Lord is with them. Why then do you set yourselves above the Lord’s assembly?” In this verse we see that Korah, along with Dathan, Abiram, and 250 leaders, challenged the authority of Moses and Aaron. God judged the rebellion, and the earth opened and swallowed Korah and his followers (Numbers 16:31-33).

The spirit of Korah is one of the most dangerous spiritual attitudes revealed in the bible because it can operate inside people who are already involved in the work of God but are dissatisfied with the place God has given them. Remember that Korah was not an Egyptian, idol worshiper, or enemy of Israel. He was a gifted and influential Levite who served around the tabernacle. He had access to sacred things, yet his heart became corrupted by ambition and pride. This reveals an important lesson to us that Korah wanted authority but did not want God’s process. Korah saw the position but ignored the preparation. Hence the spirit of Korah seeks the crown but avoids the cross.

We see that Korah already had privileges but was never being satisfied with God’s blessings according to Numbers 16:9, “Is it a small thing unto you, that the God of Israel hath separated you…?” that is why Moses reminded Korah that God had already honored him. Instead of appreciating his assignment, he desired another person’s position. I know you have heard some people say things like “I deserve more.” “Why not me?” “Why them?” this is the spirit of Korah working so beware of this spirit it has destroyed many. That is why many people miss their destiny because they pursue another person’s assignment.

God performed an extraordinary judgment to show that He had chosen Moses and Aaron. The earth opened and swallowed the principal rebels, while fire consumed the 250 men offering unauthorized incense. This demonstrated the seriousness with which God viewed the rebellion.

7 Signs of a Korah-Like Attitude

  • Constant criticism of spiritual leadership: Korah opposed the leadership God had established through Moses and Aaron. He forgot that “There is no authority except that which God has established.” (Romans 13:1).
  • Jealousy and Envy: Korah was dissatisfied with his own calling and wanted Aaron’s priesthood. That is why Moses said, that “and now you are trying to get the priesthood too.” (Numbers 16:10).
  • Creating factions and divisions: Korah gathered people to support his rebellion and created disunity among God’s people. Remember that God hates one who sows discord among brothers.” (Proverbs 6:19.
  • Pride and self-promotion: Korah desired a position that God had not given him. So always remember that “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.” (Proverbs 16:18).
  • Refusal to repent when corrected: Even after warnings, Korah refused to repent. Brethren remember that “Whoever remains stiff-necked after many rebukes will suddenly be destroyed.” (Proverbs 29:1).

How To Overcome A Korah-Like Spirit.

  • Cultivate humility before God.
  • Be content with the calling God has given you.
  • Honor godly leadership.
  • Avoid gossip and division.
  • Receive correction with a teachable heart.
  • Pray for leaders instead of attacking them.
  • Seek unity in the body of Christ.
  • Stay teachable..

After Korah’s rebellion, God instructed the leaders of the tribes to place their staffs before Him. Aaron’s rod miraculously budded, blossomed, and produced almonds. This sign confirmed God’s choice of Aaron as priest. The lesson is that God is able to confirm those He has called without human striving.

Let’s Pray.
