Your Words Can Make You Or Destroy You Now

Listen to this article

John 4:24 says, “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” According to John 6:63, “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.” What this verse means is that when words are in your mind, we can say that they don’t have life until you speak them out, and then they take a life of their own.

“It is by faith that we understand that the universe was created by God’s word, so that which can be seen was made out of what cannot be seen.” (Hebrews 11:3).

Yes, we might not see the words we speak, but those words have the power to create things in the visible world. Using words correctly can create a universe. Using them carelessly can destroy the world. God created the world with words (Psalm 33:9). Your words create your world, You are where you are now because of the words you have been speaking to yourself or because you have allowed people to speak to you. Many people’s lives have been ruined because of their words.

Your life will move in the direction of your speech. Your words are the steering that God has put into your hands, so what direction have you taken thus far? If you always speak of how bad things are, then no wonder they are that way. If you have a poor mouth, then prepare to live a poor life. If you are not happy with what is happening in your life, then change the speech you have. Never forget that words are so powerful, that they can make, or break you.

When negative thoughts come into your head, don’t voice them at all, and they will die a natural death. It’s only you who can make that choice. Remember, everything that you say creates something good or bad, so what have you been creating? Is it something you are proud of or not? Remember that your words can plant gardens or burn whole forests down.

After all the Bible says, “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” (Proverbs 18:21)

So, ensure that you match your speech with what you want to see in your life. Words can be worse than a weapon. The problem is that words, once spoken, cannot really be taken back. Words are powerful and are permanent. You can’t begin to imagine how dangerous those reckless words will continue to be. So quit cursing yourself and start blessing yourself.

“you are trapped by the words of your own mouth, caught by your own promise.” (Proverbs 6:2). What traps you is not what you think in your mind but the words you speak with your mouth.

“Cut (beat) your plough shares into swords, and your spades (pruning hooks) into spears. Let the weak say: I am strong.” (Joel 3:10).

You can’t keep on speaking negatively and expect to live a positive life (James 3:10). You can’t keep talking defeat and expecting to have victory. You can’t keep talking about lack and poverty and expect one day to be prosperous. That is why the Lord reminded his people, no matter what happens, to keep a positive attitude.

Remember, what looks impossible to you is possible with God (Luke 18:37). When you are going through tough times, I know that it’s very easy to keep talking about it with your friends and family, but that only makes the situation worse, and it ends up opening doors of fear and lack as a result of your negative speech.

Instead of talking about the problem, talk about the promises of God. For instance, Isaiah 61:3, “…God will give me crown of beauty for ashes…”. It is this time you revisit the testimonies of the big things God did for you in the past to help you strengthen your faith and keep you moving forward.

According to Romans 8:28, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Yes, I don’t know why this thing happened to me, but I know that God is redirecting my steps (Proverbs 16:9). So if God has closed a door, I know that He will open a gate because maybe the blessing God wants to give me can’t pass through that small door I have.

When we are going through tough times, we should remind ourselves of what Moses told the children of Israel in the Book of Exodus 14:12–14. They thought that they were going to die, and now that they were voicing it out, Moses told them to stop giving life to those negative words so that God could save them and then God saved them.

Yes, you might not have the answer, the way, or the means to accomplish that, but the Lord has the answer, the means, and the way to accomplish it. Remember, God’s ways are above our ways, and His thoughts are not our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9).

“Gentle words are a tree of life; a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.” Proverbs 15:4. when we misuse words, we violate the image of God that is planted in our souls.

Kind words are like honey–sweet to the taste and good for your health. Proverbs 16:24. One lie has the power to tarnish a thousand truths. Negative words can affect who you are made to be in life. So, don’t cancel your God-ordained blessing with your speech.

Instead of agreeing with the enemy about the bad things he has brought into your life, like Ezekiel in the book of Ezekiel 37:1–14, let us go beyond praying into the realm of prophesying what you want to see come to life in the here and now, and God will make it happen.

I don’t say you live in denial, but what I am saying is that you acknowledge what the problem is, and instead of dwelling on the negativity, shortcomings, or failure as a result of the problem, you write what you want to see come to pass (Habakkuk 2:2-3), and then you start to voice it out or prophesy it out, and it will attract God’s attention, and then he will answer accordingly.

The Lord repeatedly commands us in the scriptures to be careful how we talk to people. He instructs us: “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.” (Ephesians 4:29 ESV)
