Introduction.
James 1:22: But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.
Brethren, we should go beyond the level where we keep telling people that we have heard this and that from the Lord and start acting or doing that which we have heard from the Lord.
The Bible reminds us in the Book of Matthew 23:3, “So, practice and obey whatever they tell you, but don’t follow their example. For they don’t practice what they teach.”
Many people nowadays can talk and even promise quite a lot of big things, but that doesn’t mean that they mean it or they can even follow through, and as a result, they end up failing in whatever they say.
Many of us Christians can quote scripture after scripture, but that doesn’t mean we believe what that scripture says, just like the devil didn’t mean the scriptures that he was quoting to Jesus in the desert when he was testing Him (Matthew 4:5–6), while on the other side, Jesus understood what He meant, and was a doer of God’s word, and was even living through it.
Brethren, you should read the Bible and then believe it, and then it becomes a law to you, and as a result, you start enjoying the fruit of obeying what the Bible says to you. Remember that God is always speaking to you through his word. It doesn’t matter whether you believe God’s word or not; it is going nowhere; it will stand forever (Isaiah 40:8).
So according to Psalm 119:11, how much of God’s word have you stored in your heart? Then the million-dollar question is: How much of that stored word is working for you?
Many of us live a fake Christian life by quoting this and that scripture and crossing our fingers that maybe some of these scriptures might work. In short, we are not sure of the words we are saying or quoting. That is why we do not see what we say come to pass immediately. For instance, we see that in the Book of Acts 19:11–12, Paul not only knew God’s word but also lived it and acted on God’s word to the point that these words, which he believed with his mouth, became part of himself and everything around him.
No wonder even the power in God’s word was soaked in his body and clothes, and they still continued to do what he believed them to do. On the other hand, we see in the Book of Acts 19:13 that there were 7 sons of Sceva who read the same words but did not bring those words to life because they just quoted them and didn’t believe them, and as a result, they didn’t get any results.
When you live by God’s word, there is no second-guessing; let’s pray and see what the Lord will do. You just believe the word will work, just like a light bulb’s switch works all the time unless it’s broken. It’s better to know one word that works than to know a million words that don’t. It is not the many words we know that make God hear us, but many words that we believe in that make God hear us (Matthew 6:7).
Example of a Story Of A Preacher Who Knew God’s Word But Wasn’t A Doer.
On the 30th of August 2006, a preacher called Pastor Franck Kebele from Gabon, West Africa, told his congregation he could repeat the biblical miracle of walking in the water just the same way Jesus did, so he went ahead, but because he only had the theory word in his heart and not the spirit behind God’s word, he sank, and before they could rescue him, he drowned and died.
This is an example of ignorance, and no wonder God’s people are destroyed because they don’t understand ‘the how’ of things. No wonder many people are making fun of the church of God because we so-called Christians can’t defend what we preach and hold dear,nd that is the word. Brethren, did you know that if today’s Christians were confronted by a serious witch who challenged them to a showdown of power, only a few Christians would accept?
Jesus believed his word so much that it was a law unto him, and he created worlds with this same word. So, it wasn’t a problem for Him to say that I would walk in the water and then follow that word with the act of walking in the water. So, as we see in the Book of Matthew 14:28 when Peter saw that the word had worked for Jesus, he requested that Jesus teach him how to use that same word that had worked for him and make him walk in the water so that he could also use it and walk in the water too (Matthew 14:28–29).
When you know the nuts and bolts of a word, it’s not hard to use it to your advantage. Only Peter and not the other disciples in this case received that “spirit” that gives power to God’s word, and as a result, the word became alive. The word of God is waiting for you and me to give it life. Remember that every time you open your mouth, the Lord fills it, according to Psalms 81:10, with either life or death (Proverbs 18:21) But the choice is yours, according to Deuteronomy 30:19, so choose well.
So, learn after you read or hear God’s word to inquire whether that is the word for you or not. Remember, it might be the word of the Lord, but it might not be meant for you, or it might be for you but not for that season (Habakkuk 2:3).
Remember, the word we are talking about here is not head knowledge. Simply because we keep saying that your God is my God, it doesn’t mean you can blackmail God to do to you what he did to the other person in your situation. You must hear God clearly saying, “This is the way; walk in it” (Isaiah 30:21). Don’t just do things because others are doing them; you are going to fail because you lack the most important thing, and that is the spirit of the word, which quickens and gives life to any situation (John 6:63). Without this spirit, the word is dead and can’t do anything; it’s like a dead body that lacks the spirit.
Brethren, before you start anything, inquire of the Lord, just like David in the Bible did. Quit forcing things because, without the backing of the spirit, nothing will come to pass. According to Hosea 12:13, God used the words of a prophet to bring Israel up from Egypt; in short, God didn’t use an army but a spirit-filled word from the mouth of a prophet.
So whether it is business, career, healing, or whatever you are looking for, God’s word is going to be sent to you in season for your deliverance (Psalm 107:20). The only question is, are you ready to catch God’s word and run with it or not?
Remember that according to 1 Corinthians 2:1, Paul reminds us that although he was learned and could have used sweet words, he chose to use God’s spirit-filled words. So if you do the same you will start to see more and more miracles.
Lastly, remember that there are over 7,000 promises of God in the Bible waiting to be discovered and embraced by you. These promises cover various aspects of life, including love, faith, provision, healing, and eternal salvation. All these promises are password-protected, and you can only unlock them using your spirit-filled words and not just empty words. No wonder Jesus spoke in parables (Matthew 13:10–12).
